Late Evening Thoughts

I believe that we often find ourselves focus on the wrong things or just not following the appropriate steps to achieve our dreams. We make decisions based off of what we think they should be or how we think they should go but often it changes.

How do you overcome the obstacles and hurdles daily that keep you from achieving your own personal and professional goals? We often make excuses as to why things have not gotten done or get too comfortable in our situation because its a routine that has worked for us. It is important to be self-motivated; encouragement is wonderful and experiencing a successful life with someone is great. I feel that priorities must be in line in order to be successful and certain questions should be asked. Did I accomplished what has been expected from me? What do I have to offer to those in need? Will my resources be valuable to others besides myself? Have I taken any opportunities for granted and if so, how can I correct that?

I'm learning that there is no such thing as the right time to connect with those that can assist you. You should do your research to learn about the company or organization. If you're offering or seeking the attention of the same audience then you should be maintaining contact with that direct connect. The time is now and every day that you wait to reach out that is another chance you missed out on.

Sincerely,

Mimi- N.B.S

The Networking Circle-

Your networking circle is extremely important and how you interact with your connections is vital. I recently had a conversation with my girlfriend DaVida Branch of Real Talk Radio every Wednesday evening from 9:00 pm-11:00 pm on WindyCityUnderground.com. We discussed the importance of personal and professional relationships with those that you plan on conducting business with. The first topic that we discussed dealt with trusting that your connection will look out for the best interest of you and your business. In order to provide this type of assistance and support that connect must take the opportunity to learn about you. Networking aids us as professionals so that we understand the importance of trusting our consultants.

For Example: If I decided to do business  with you, could I trust that you  will represent my company/organization well?

If I trust your judgment and receive your professional advice then that means we have built a successful foundation. Your trust for that consultant also ties into having a strong support system. Everyone will not always support your product or the services that you provide however it is important to receive guidance. If your support system is consistent then you will continue to build strong relationships with the necessary people. REMEMBER as you grow those that support your brand will grow. Word of mouth is everything and you cannot succeed without supporters, readers, reviewers, listeners, audience, talent, PR's, voters, publists and advertisement. If you ever find yourself saying that "I don't expect support from those that are around me" then you’re probably not around enough people that care. This is just my OPINION.

Those that support your craft may not necessarily love what you do but they understand why you do it. There is a respect there for the profession that you are in. I look at it the same as watching a reality TV show and thinking to myself these women are degrading themselves. At the same time they may be advocates for abused women, the AIDS virus, breast cancer sponsors or they could be active with youth organizations in the community. I would never know or understand why they host/star in a reality show if I never paid attention to the additional projects their involved in. This is a great example as to why I support small business owners, artists, entertainers, comedians and PR's as I do.

Stepping out of the box in your profession is one thing but the next step that I believe we should all take is measuring our performance. You can measure your performance by asking different individuals to give their insight on what they would like to see or hear from you. Instead of assuming that you have all the answers to your success BE more open to ask. We have to remember that adults can be indecisive just like children; we may have interest in one thing today and it may change tomorrow. If your expertise is selling than you should also be open to learning new ways to enhance your managerial skills. You can learn and develop new managerial skills that will eventually open up opportunities for others to work within your company/organization. You CANNOT train or provide a structural layout to someone if you have not developed the skill of structure yourself.

Last and most importantly when measuring your performance individually... do not be scared to share your ideas amongst your networking circle. If you are uncomfortable with sharing ideas amongst the people in your circle then why ARE they in YOUR CIRCLE? Or you haven't taken the steps to build a solid relationship. I strongly dislike the phrase "Every Man For themselves" we forget that we're where we are now because someone referred us. If my ideas and advice helps someone in my networking circle then that’s what makes me successful.

Mimi's Thoughts: My Worst Anonymous Valentine....

Are you looking forward to spending Valentine's Day with your significant other? Before you answer that question, can you think about your worst Valentine's Day experience? Do you remember what happened during your date or with your partner that made it one of your worst experiences?

I'm sure that I'm not the only one that has spent that day alone, has been stood up or accompanied an annoying person out just for the sake to say you went out on a date. Or maybe you were out and something crazy or unexpected happened. Did he think he was going to get some on the first night? Did your friend set you up on a blind date with his female friend and the chick was not cute? Would you have given that person a second chance or should they remain anonymous in your life? Did you have a little to much to drink and woke up disappointed that you had a one night stand?

I've had a few bad experiences of my own....these are some of my favorite stories to tell. My first story would be the one about my rebound date which I had because I didn't want to be alone on Valentine's Day. This guy was totally consumed with himself and he kept talking about his relationship history with other women while we were eating. REALLY who cares your out with me and your suppose to keep my attention NOT loose it. Well to make a long story short we left the show and we walked along Michigan Avenue in Downtown Chicago. While we were walking he reached in for the kiss and I turned my head so fast that he was slapped by the wind... I told him OH No I'm not on that. I hopped in the cab and headed home immediately couldn't do it.

Oh yeah...then I had a date with "The Mac" well he thought he was one because his game was WHACK. This guy decides to take me to his cousins' house to hang out and I ended up stepping into the washroom. I came out the washroom and realized that his cousins went into their bedroom and he cuts down the lights. He walks over to me and asks...Can I make Sweet Love to you Baby... I asked him was he serious and grabbed my coat. Don't get me wrong the brother was smart and successful but don't be thirsty on the first night. I also had a guy that digged in his nose on the sly and a guy that left the washroom without washing his hands and I smelled urine. What about the guy that wears his wedding ring on the wrong finger and picks you up... Remember, when you first met the guy he didn't have a ring on!

Well those are just a few and I've shared many of my stories with friends and you probably still laugh with yours about it too. I alway enjoy listening to my guy and his crazy stories because they are hilarious. If you would like to share your worst anonymous valentine I would love to read about them. :)

Sincerely,

Mimi's Thoughts.......
