I've always admired those who work towards enhancing their professional development skills. There is a study that shows that growth comes with change, changes come with the environment and people who you choose to be surrounded within your life. According to Forbes contributor, Andrea Loubier, in her article, "How offices Are Innovating To Improve Our Happiness, Productivity And Well Being," she gives examples of how corporations and business owners are changing the game on how effective and beneficial their employees have become in the workplace. Some were, creating an environment to encourages movement, this allows employees to incorporate healthy activities while full-filling their daily duties. In addition, having more modern spaces for them to work and relax during the day but most importantly, I identified with health because of my experience working in corporate settings.
There were no areas near or within my office that provided healthy snacks or meals to the employees throughout the day, especially considering positions that required me to work overtime. Most meals were full of meats and carbs, salads were not a norm. Not to say that I wasn't grateful for free lunch on busy days, however, I would have not been angry about eating a spinach salad every once in a while.
Now, after noting the above factors in changing the productivity in the workplace, I didn't address the people. Corporate environments and entrepreneurial environments are different. Let's touch on that, as an entrepreneur we tend to focus on marketing, branding, targeting a selected group of people to market to. We tend to forget from time to time to air out the negative voices, the tension that we build amongst ourselves and others, and to focus on the good. We do have control over how we respond, the message that we project and the image that we wish to portray.
My point is that each factor that addresses necessary change in the workplace should not just be held to the standards of a corporate environment or small business. If you didn't have the CEO, the executive manager or the co-worker who sat across in the small cubical that you share to blame for your bad productivity, or your inability to connect with clients or effectively marketing yourself then how great are you really in your position. As an entrepreneur, that is a part of the struggle, not being able to place blame on our environment or the people who we work with but taking more accountability on how we do business. The people who we keep in our circle, are they only interested in having drinks with us or are they interested in doing business with us? Will this person share my product, give me help in promoting it or offer any assistance? Are examples of questions that you should ask yourself before building relationships with people, not after. You want business and professional relationship with people. You can have personal relationships but ask yourself can you be friends with a person who doesn't support you or celebrate your accomplishments with you?
At this point in my life, I guess I'm more concerned with how I can make changes on my own and with the help of others to promote a better professional career for myself. I want to leave less time to blame others for my shortcomings and take more responsibility for how effective my work actually is. To me that defines a good leader, being able to carry great loads of responsibilities as well as being accountable for your own pitfalls. Leaders provide constructive criticism as well as they take it. They provide tips, tools, and training to help those around them succeed but, by demonstrating what that work ethic is all about.
Try not to let the conditions and the people around you control how effective you are in your career.

You Scream Support
Example of inconsistency -
ex: Janet Strong, Jewelry Consultant (this person does not exist as far as I know)
Janet utilizes social media once a week or less and expects - 50 followers a week. How do you expect that? There is something to be said about someone who expects something for nothing, we should refrain from being that person.
I've also learned that everyone will not support your cause, campaign or successes. What does that mean? It's simple, it means that either they don't recognize it as an accomplishment, they feel lack of support from you themselves or they just don't care.
So, here's what you should do:
Focus on sharing more, inviting others into your space and again networking (connecting with others through the exchange of information and connections with the purpose of expansion). What are you doing in exchange to help others? How often do your friends or followers see you supporting others? Does your brand or product interest those that you're seeking attention from?
In a world of business, we expected others to help us and fall guilty into the celebrity social media status. Being honest here, social media has somewhat ruined us with this fake narrative that people like us based on whether they do or don't like our post. I assume that those who fall into the category of true social media celebrities are the ones who are actually getting paid for their talents. My point is to not focus on status, we should focus on our talents and embrace those who can see our vision already. It may take time for some to appreciate your gifts, be willing to share what others have and have respect for them as they learn more about you.
I get it, we all need support and having someone show interest in us is a great feeling but does their interest in you weigh more than YOUR PASSION? I most certainly hope not.
Lastly, remember that those who don't have interest in your brand or product now may be drawn to it later. As entrepreneurs, creators and faces of our own particular brands, we can not take offense so easily to others. If you're complaining or throwing shade on social media who will want to embrace or support you, I've found that to be a turn-off. You can push away, your followers, viewers, listeners, and friends by verbally beating them because their response does not come when you desire it. How unprofessional is that? Do you really want to be seen as an entrepreneur or a social celebrity?
We must spend more time embracing those things that set us apart and not the likes of those who have not begun to know who we are.
Be blessed with today, happy Friday!
Sincerely,
Miriam Dixon-Davis

Building your network and communication skills
Do you recall your time attending a company meeting, participating in a brainstorming session or sitting in a classroom where people talked over one another constantly?
You would probably be able to hear them clearly, if you talked less and listened more. However, I've noticed that even people who've attended, held executive roles or hosted all three, still may have not mastered effective communication.
Would you believe me if I stated that I experienced all three in each event listed above? I can admit to being one of those people who wanted to get my point across, by strongly voicing my opinions or just listening while quietly disagreeing. Now, I know that it was not the best way of communicating, that took me time to figure out. What I didn't realize at first is that, not having an open-mind, and selfishly dismissing the opinions of others could effect my relationships with some.
The same applies when networking -
In order to build better networking and communication skills you must be willing to listen to others to the end of the conversation. You may find that at the end of your conversation when meeting some one new that there is a need to connect. You may also realize that you have no need to connect professionally with someone but that they might be a great referral for you or vice versa.
People would probably say that you're faking it, I strongly disagree. The first initial meeting is your opportunity to learn as much as you can about that individual. There may be instances where you have to speak with a person two or three times to see if you are able to help or exchange services. A person can easily assume that you have no interest in their service or business if they never asked. On the flip side if you never ask me about my business or services that I offered and assume that you don't need them then that is a example of broken communication.
Be selective with your connections, make sure that the person who is trying to connect with you can discuss their business and services specifically. You want to have valuable connection, that you can not only use for yourself but pass on to others. If they can't explain their business, then surely they will not be able to.
I hope that you will practice listening more, not making assumptions and asking more about someone and their business in order to build a stronger network.

When I discovered my passion
Some people say that your life really starts after college; others say after building a family and of course it could be at any one of those moments or after.
For me, everything began two years after college. I was single, getting out of relationship that was toxic, living in my second apartment and working a full-time position in higher education. My apartment was a small studio, with a walk-in closet that I loved. It was the best bachelorette pad, I guess that's the best way to refer to it. As a women, I feel that I can speak on the behalf of others when it comes to the phase "never having anything to wear" we tend to look in our closet and have a room full of clothes but it never seems as if there is enough options for us to select from.
If you're a shoe fanatic than you could agree that the same applies. I dressed up for work everyday but once the weekend came around I didn't really have much to wear. I stopped buying jeans while replacing them with dress pants and starting purchasing blouses in place of t-shirts. Note to self: Keep your t-shirts, they are so useful in the winter and the summer. I planned on going out with my girlfriends one weekend and realized I had no casual shirts. That prompted me to go to Target; while in Target I couldn't make up my mind so I decided to look up online how to make one. After I made my first shirt, I decided to order me a screen printer which wasn't the best but it worked good enough to get the job done. It doesn't sound too appealing, I know.
However, I decided to design them online utilizing various printing companies and I sold them for a year. After leaving the position, I started working a new position that took up most of my time. I realized that having my own business was my dream. I don't regret taking that position but I do regret not taking time out to learn how to balance between the two. My whole point to this and that you can do whatever you desire. Although, I made some mistakes during that time period my desire to be a business owner never left. It actually changed from just being a clothing designer to becoming an educational advocate for the community. It became greater than I imagined and even greater than me. You need to know that you are not perfect and that it's okay if you veer off track. Sometimes you have to take the long road so that you can truly see your purpose and live the life that you always thought that you could.
Best,
- From Mrs.N.B.S

Should networking always be fun?
The other day, I sat and networked with an inspiring group of women. We are talking about mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends all together, discussing natural hair. You know what happens when you put nothing but sisters in one room, they're clowning, cracking jokes and they are more then willing to share their bad hair day experiences.
To fast-forward towards the end of the meeting, I had a mother tell me right before leaving that she did not like social networking. I paused in my steps, because at that moment I knew why my passion to share and educate others on professional networking was so important. She had no idea that she was already networking and had been doing so for years; within that group of amazing women.
It's important that we understand that social and professional networking is two different things. However, networking is communicating and connecting with a group of individuals with the purpose of furthering your career or enhancing your business. You should never look to network with people if you are not looking to gain knowledge, tools, a position, friendships, clients and etc. That does not mean that it can't be fun, it just means that you must do it with purpose.
There will be moments when you have to attend a conference, an executive meeting, there may be a moment where you're attending an after seven event which is more casual. It can be in passing at an art gallery, a comedy show case or on-set for a movie. My point is that you can connect with people anywhere but you must be excited and always hopeful about it because you never know what may come out of it. Networking will not always be fun but it is always necessary.
Be blessed and inspired on today,
Mrs. N.B.S

The Clique Vs. The Network
On today, I was reminded that often times we have individuals that prefer to be in cliques instead of being a part of a network. Now, I will get more in depth on my thoughts concerning this but here is the difference between the two.
Source - Google
"Clique" - A small group of people, with shared interests or other features in common, who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.
Source - Google
The key words here is do not readily. If you plan to have a private, uninviting group that focuses on appearances, comfort-based off on purely who you know and what you know then that is NOT a network.
"Network" - A group or system of interconnected people or things. Interconnected refers to those who are all connected.
Source - Google
The meanings and differences sound pretty accurate to me. I can't speak for you or anyone else but networking sounds much more attractive to me.
- This can be concerning when referring to cliques formed in an office setting or where individuals are motivated to build a professional leadership group. I can speak from my own personal experiences that becoming or being a part of a clique is something that you might want to avoid. If you desire the ability to form a successful networking partnership then you need to be open to meeting new people who have that objective at heart. Being a part of a clique happens often in work environments and that can stir up a lot of tension amongst co-workers, whether it be departmental or interdepartmental. Save your time and energy for producing quality work, building strong relationships, earning the trust of your co-workers and upper management.
Managers be advised that you create the environment in which your employees will demonstrate professionalism and increase morale. You are the example. What you start will be what you have to finish and will be purely a representation of you.
That doesn't mean that you shouldn't be weary of those that you attach your name and brand too when building your networking circle. You have the advantage, communicate with them so that the relationship can thrive and grow. If someone has already made up their mind about you then they will automatically reject you or any information that you have to offer. Be open to the people that you come into contact with, you never know what type of skills or experience they may have. It's just like they say "Never judge a book by it's cover," you must always be willing to read the story. Ask specific questions and understand that you may not agree with what they have to say but realize that you have started a lane for communication with them.
You have more influence over a person when your are more receptive to listening to them then rejecting them. I prefer to be the go-to person and not be the person to watch out for, There will be a time where you will need assistance from someone outside of your clique or network. You will not want to be rejected based off of how you treated them or someone that is connected to that particular person.
There is always more to a person than what we can see or hear, keep that in mind.
Be Blessed,
Mrs. N.B.S

Personal Vs. Professional Relationships
If you have valuable connections within your network then you need to be in constant communication them. Your network does not have to be large for it to be valuable, often times the best connections are unexpected and small. How do you know that you have a valuable network? It's when you don't have to ask repeatedly for support.
Negative Outcomes of reaching out to your network:
Hosting an event:
If you are one to host events often and your events play a major role in how you market your business but no one in your network shows, how are they valuable connection?
Selling or offering a product or service:
You suggest or ask for individuals to share your product even it they are not interested. If no one even shares the product or services that you have, then they are not a valuable connection?
Starting a new business or venture:
You request that your connections, give a advice, give suggestions, feedback or referrals. You could ask family or friends and receive little to absolutely no responses at all. Your family and friends are exactly just that. They are not apart of your networking circle.
Keep in mind that each example that I shared does not eliminate those individuals from becoming a valuable connection it just means that they are not a valuable connection at the moment.
As a professional in general, we must be able to understand that a personal relationship and a professional relationship are different. I'm learning that you can have a personal relationship with individuals and it can be merely just that. I've also learned that if you have a professional relationship with the people who you are connected with then there is a certain level of respect given. When you have a personal and professional relationship with people that you are connected with, those people are your most valuable connections. You can accomplish so much with people when you have their respect and their friendship.
Be Blessed,
Mrs. N.B.S

Preparation for a new start
The re-invention stage of developing your business and brand is overwhelming at times. Honestly, I understand how hard it can be to place yourself in a position within your business that is pleasing and fulfilling only to be disappointed with your results. Time and time again you hear people say, "don't give up or you are on the right track". Well, it's true and there is no excuse for you to give up on the one thing that will help you achieve the most important goal in this life, becoming what you were put on this earth to be.
Here are a few steps that I am using to stay motivated:
1. Setting a daily goal. I have to tell myself that it doesn't matter what time of the day it is, how late or how sleepy I am. I need to accomplish that goal each day.
2. Weekly researching of other companies related to mine to determine how I can stand out and become more appealing to the public eye. Look for new marketing aims, I have to remind myself that it's better to make a mistake now rather than later.
3. Stay in communication with my contacts and resources weekly. Write down your results and asks mentors and those your connected to for advice on how to implement a strategic plan within your business.
4. Start investing more in others, whether showing interest and being more involved in their projects or business ventures as well. Sometimes it hard to make time for others because your more focused on elevating your own business. When you show interest it provides encouragement and confidence for them as well as yourself.
5. Be consistent in everything that you do.
6. Be pleasant, kind and patient.

The Writer's Experience- A Notebook Thought
At the moment, I'm focusing on the direction that I want to go in for my next book, Intolerable Boundaries, Part-2. I tend to doubt my lines in between writing each paragraph or wonder if the direction of the book will be relatable to my audience. Then I remember that it's my book, my vision, and interpretation of the world. I can only hope that it heart-warming, touching, appealing and over all that they are liked and loved by my readers. My desire is to become known as a writer with purpose; inspiring, heart grasping and depicting hope. I would be disappointed if there was no criticism.

My STL Bridal Show Xperience
An engagement brings the excitement of planning,
researching and gathering details to start the process of planning the perfect
wedding. Selecting the theme of your wedding and the colors for the flower
arrangements may seem simple but it’s usually the small necessities that set
the tone on that special day. Today, I attended the St. Louis Bridal Show at
the St. Charles Convention Center. The event was well organized for the
bride-to-be on her mission to plan out that special day. Each table was
prepared to present their services from beautiful bridal bouquets to samples of
tasty reception treats. It was nice that some of the vendors offered one-stop
shop services as well for the bride.
Although, I enjoyed the wonderful set-ups and music coming from the various
DJ tables; it was quite overwhelming. It can be challenging for a bride-to-be
to make decisions on a venue, florists and bridal salons when you’ve been
offered information on 4 or more for each of the same services.
I realized after stopping at the first 8 tables it would be in my best
interested to get more personal with each representative. Here are a few ideas
that came to mind following my observation:
First thing first brides-to-be:
Create and set your budget. Do whatever you can to stay within the
lines that you and your significant other have agreed on. You need to be
willing to give up somethings to have what you desire the most on your special
day. Everything else will come out amazing for you. I’m sure of this.
Secondly: Have your mom, mother-in-law, sister, close friend and/or
maid of honor right by your side to assist when making decisions. I learned
this today by having my friend with me. Your friend should be encouraging once
your decisions are made. Be confident in knowing what you desire but be open to
accepting the fact that your vision may change. You need someone there to
remind you that everything will be fine. Take a breath!
Selecting the right venue for your wedding:
Ask the vendor about space accommodation. It’s helpful to know as a
bride-to-be that the venue offers more than one area or space within their
facility for you to host your wedding or reception. Outdoor weddings and
receptions should always be taken into consideration when having a spring-fall
season wedding.
Also, be open to a smaller intimate wedding when hosting a smaller
party of guests. Remember that the earlier you book your appointments and tour
of your preferred venues the sooner you will be able to lock in your date.
Narrow your venue choices down to three choices based on location, cost and
space. Once you have your venue locked in and secured then your vision will
become clearer. Trust me attending a bridal show can make things seem a bit
foggy when planning.
Your vendor may become a one-stop shop for all the services you need.
Some vendors may offer a checklist form that breaks down prices on meal plans,
open bar, music, invitations, photographers and floral. This will buy you
sometime in traveling or researching for additional services that they already have available.
Dress selecting process:
Your dress outside of the venue is the main attraction. Nothing lets
everyone know who matters on this day more than your presentation. Your dress
and your mood will set the tone for the day.
Leave negative, unhappy and opinionated people behind on the day you go
to try on dresses. You cannot be confident and happy in your selection if
negative vibes are flying around during your appointment. Be prepared to write
your –“Misery Not Allowed” sign at your appointment for those interested in
joining.
Allow yourself time in advance to find the right dress so that
alterations can be made before the wedding. Review bridal planners, bridal
gowns and accessories online prior to your appointment.
Lastly, remember that anything can go south before your wedding day and
it will still be perfect.

My New STL Connection
Meet STL Blogger & Marketer, Jeanne-Marie De Clue

Gaining confidence in yourself and your talents can increase your desire to meet new people. This is the perfect example of an unexpected connection. The professional connection between Jeanne and I was not made at your typical networking event or gathering. We encountered each other at a Starbucks Coffee located in the Creve Coeur area in Saint Louis. Jeanne was sitting across from me on a phone call discussing an event that she had planned on attending later on that night. I knew that once her call ended it would be the best time to inquire about her profession. In the mist of conversation, we clicked and now are beginning a new friendship.

What you know Vs. Who you know
If you are skilled on comparing data, navigating systems and
determining how to incorporate the overall resolution to a problem, it is based
on what you know. Connecting with different people who have similar interest in
your ideas, thoughts and business can possibly
provide you the referral needed for a position or a new client is built
on who you know.
I can tell you this because within the last 10 years out of
the last 3 positions I held; 2 out of 3 were given to me based on referrals.
The last recent position I left due to relocation for my family was my place of
employment for 5 years. Each one of the
references I received was from a friend and past colleague I worked with at a
previous company. Not to mention each connection was fully aware of my
educational background, my ability to communicate and connect with anyone. I
understand the importance of treating people with respect regardless of age,
race, gender, mental or physical abilities and which does not determine their
levels of achievements.
What you know can be a factor in many of the accomplishments
that you obtain with understanding a few points:
1. THE OPENNESS TO LEARN – Becoming a blank canvas
will give you the chance to make mistakes and learn in the process. As we all
know, some of the most prominent and greatest success stories are from those
that took risks and experienced failure.
2. ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES- I know this can be
difficult. I must admit myself that I am a work in progress on this but it will
get better. Have faith and believe. It has aided me in the process of getting over my fears and learning more about varies topics.
3. INCREASE YOUR LEVEL OF EDUCATION – If you wish
to pursue a degree or attend a training course but fear the cost of taking out
student loans do not stop there. There are plenty of training courses that you
can take online for affordable cost and don’t forget to check your local
library for online classes that are offered as well. Remember that the more
training and skills you pursue the more you will get to achieving new goals and
completing tasks needed to have a thriving business.
4. CONFIDENT
IN YOUR DECISIONS – Once you make a choice to start a project or make an
investment than give it your best. How can you make your creation or project
better? Anything that you touch can be better if you give your best. Call or email your mentor and request some time to learn more about that particular field. Contribute anytime that you have free to volunteer and volunteer work does not always have to be in person. Utilize your technical skills and put your ideas on paper then present it to your mentor.
Who you know can be a factor in many of the opportunities
you receive once you understand a few points:
1. There
are certain accomplishments that you were able to make because you’ve had the assistance or help of someone.
2. BE OPEN FOR CHANGE.
3. SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION with follow-up emails,
cards or small gifts. It will be one of the greatest investments as an
entrepreneur or employee representative that you have given.
4. RESPECT
YOUR INVESTMENT - When you respect yourself and your brand than you show others
that there is no lacking on your end in your business. You are a walking
reflection of yourself and the abilities that you possess. Start
talking LESS about yourself and your associates will start talking MORE about
how amazing you are. Give people a reason to like you, love you and accept
those that challenge you. At the beginning most people might not like you at
all or even have interest in you and that is okay.
5. SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT YOU! You will not feel as if you've wasted energy into those that have not even given you a word of encouragement. There will be people in your life that may not necessarily need a
service or product that you offer. It does not matter because the process of
networking does not always mean that I should always see a self-serving
benefit. Show up to an event, refer someone else to them that can help them
earn a sale or offer you volunteering. If you feel uncomfortable with
supporting them in their journey of successes than what benefit have you gained
from your connection with them. You became a walking promotional tool when you
discussed their business with someone else that was looking for their services,
right? Than show some love, what do you have to lose?
You have to show and prove at the end of the day. That's what makes you so great in your business, position and maintaining your reputation.
Thanks for your continued support and I wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Mimi

Crossing Tides Part #2 PUSH
Typically, we meet someone and build a relationship just based on a connection. Our thoughts are that it might be a sign or possibly a relationship of value where something can be gained from it. I do believe that business and personal relationships can offer new ideas of interest and increase our desires to accept challenges in our life that we normally wouldn't go after.
A PUSH can be referred to as a form of encouragement to motivate us to see beyond what is visible in our current state of mind.
If your new relationship displays a vision that you never thought was possible than their is no reason that you shouldn't pursue this new discovery and brace yourself for exploring.

"I wake up each day at odds with myself because working a nine to five was never apart of my long-term plans. While walking into the building where my office is located a man stood and he handed me a new opportunity to enter a life of entrepreneurship. Later that week, I decided to attend the seminar being held in the area near by my office. Success stories were shared by veteran entrepreneurs in real estate and my first thought was this is my chance to live a dream that almost died."
"Speaking into a mic every morning and entering the station to prepare for my show is the highlight of my day. Presenting my listeners with the news on the latest entertainment and updates or getting callers to check in with questions based on topics for the day excites me. I love hearing feedback from the fans. Today was different and I felt as if my connection with the public needed to be stronger and more presence was needed. An associate of mine offered me a new opportunity to create a online series and although being on camera is far from my comfort zone this might be the chance to build up my reputation."
"Social gatherings can lack intimacy when your trying to meet people or network. Loud music and tight crowds with dark settings might cause you to doubt the potential reward that might stem from an event. Tonight I attended this affair to promote my new clothing line for dresses for women of all sizes. I thought that the best way to get responses or increase interest in my product would be to wear one of my designs there. After spending an hour passing out business cards and showing pictures of my sample line it lead to the upcoming weeks being very prosperous for me."
Note to self - Keep PUSHING!

Lessons on intertwining business & professional relationships
|
"A friend offered me an opportunity to make additional income which I thought would be beneficial to me and my family. I never considered that our friendship would be at risk later. In the beginning process of starting my career I agreed to do some work for her and it continued for a while. Recently, I was unable to fulfill a task that was asked of me due to an uncontrollable situation. I reached out to her to try to apologize but that only made things worse. Our exchange of words lead to a argument and the ending result left us with a ruined friendship."
Your friendship must be strong enough to endure any obstacles. In business, you are responsible for providing a service and people are counting on you to meet their professional expectations. If the business relationship fails, your personal relationship should not suffer. Everyone has their own feelings on the level of drive needed to experience successes. The amount of effort needed should be expressed to your professional associate in order to hold them accountable. The first moment that you offered the opportunity is the moment that you crossed that personal boundary.
My Significant Other's Expectations "Right now I'm dating my co-worker and at times it can be testing. I feel like I have to be on pins and needles every time an attractive woman walks in the building. Now having her there is a perk she understands what I deal with because we work together and often can assist me with requested task asked of me by executive management. Seeing each other everyday all day is not healthy and some separation time is needed." When you select a mate you look for someone that is interested in being your partner, maybe or maybe not. There are perks to working with your lover and there are downers that can break you apart. You must communicate with your partner the importance of space and act on creating space. In order for you to be productive and accomplish your goals within a business or organization you must set standards by acting on them consistently.
My family Over Everything
"I hired my cousin for a position at the factory because we have a great relationship, wrong decision. Recently, my cousin started being late and calling off for days at a time with excuses of being ill. I noticed the other day on Facebook that he attended a party and obviously forgot that I follow him on social media. I'm starting to regret the fact that I hired him and unfortunately I will be firing him do to lack of performance. I know that this is going to affect our relationship." Having something to pass down to your children or to other family is important. When you own your own business or invest a great amount of time within a company your expectations for those that work for you are usually high. You should communicate with your family member the expectations that you have before you offer the position. Hold them accountable at the beginning so they have no excuses but to go the extra mile or turn down the opportunity. Crossing Tides Part #1 -N.B.S |

Networking on Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri
Today I decided to attend a networking event in Saint Charles, Missouri which is not too far away from where me and my family reside. The event was held at Little Hills Winery on 501 South Main Street where the hosts and hostesses greeted me at the front entrance with warm smiles.
My first thought was that maybe I was dressed too casual for this event. Before I could think twice about leaving the hostess escorted me up stairs to their Loft. Once I reached the top of the stairs I was greeted by Mrs. Pat Eberhardt, Member of the St. Charles Chapter of Women's Power Networking (WPN) in Missouri and she welcomed me with open arms.
I had the chance to network with over 10 entrepreneurs and we took turns sharing the professional services that we all offered. In the process of discussing our past, present and future goals it dawned on me why I was able completely eliminated my fears. By building yet again another foundation outside of my comfort zone. This was only the beginning to building new personal and professional relationship with these ladies; by breaking the ice. It really felt great. We exchanged business cards and goodbyes. I was even offered additional contacts for other entrepreneurs that may be in need of social media assistance.
The message of today is focusing on stepping outside of your comfort zone. Express your interest and be clear about the services you provide. Share any contacts or referrals that you might have so that other connectors can benefit from them. You should not be afraid to shake hands, smile and show your appreciation for the open invitation.
After the WPN Cocktails & Contacts event, I was able to walk along the St. Charles Main Street landmark and take pictures of the small shops, restaurants, historical buildings and the winery. (Images Below)
